Who are the actors involved in the STI policy process? How does evidence flow into this process? Elly Tanaka is a developmental biologist renowned for her groundbreaking research in the field of tissue regeneration and stem cell biology. Tanaka is particularly recognized for her work on limb regeneration in axolotls, a process that has captivated scientists for its potential implications in regenerative medicine. Her lab's research focuses on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms that govern tissue regeneration, with the ultimate goal of applying this knowledge to enhance regenerative capacities in other organisms, including humans. During her talk, she took us through her scientific journey and highlight the importance of systemic studies in regenerative biology.
Alpha Yap, Professor and Group Leader at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience, discussed in his talk about his journey of collaborating across disciplines with colleagues from physics, developmental biology and mathematics, in studying how mechanical forces are generated and sensed, to coordinate cell behaviour in tissues.
