Subhash Mukhopadhyay Centre for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine
(SMC-SCBRM) at Adamas University, Kolkata, invites application to host a PhD student to work on regulation gene expression during human germline development at Dr. Maharshi Krishna Deb’s lab.
SMC-SCBRM is a newly established start-of-the-art research unit embedded in ADAMAS University, Kolkata, and also the first research centre in eastern India dedicated for research on stem cells and regenerative sciences. The project will focus on understanding the mechanisms for suppression of retrotransposons and untimely gene expression in human primordial germ cells to prevent aberrant genomic imprinting for development to term. In addition, the candidate will also contribute to the ongoing recently established method that reap the benefit of this immortal lineage to meliorate phenotypes of human aging.

The position is initially available for 2 years. Based on evaluation after 2 years, the candidate can continue to work as SRF for another 3 years towards the completion and award of the doctoral degree.

The application is invited from those who hold post-graduate degree in basic science and selected either through National Eligibility Tests — CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE or through national level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT, ICMR etc.

The ideal candidate must have strong expertise in CRISPR- based genome editing and preparation of primary mammalian cell culture.
