Manager, Science Communication and Public Engagement
Profile
DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance invites applications from suitably qualified persons for their Science Communications & Public Engagement Team.
- Working closely with the leadership to enhance the visibility and impact of the organisation.
- Develop material to communicate key scientific stories emerging from our engagements, using both, written and visual mediums.
- Liaise and coordinate with researchers and other stakeholders to identify and communicate research developments in a way that is accessible and engaging to the public.
- Ensuring that all communication materials are accurate, well-written, and conform to institutional guidelines.
- Preparation of reports and press releases related to engagements and specific events.
- Managing social media platforms and evaluating outcomes and impact.
Duration
The initial appointment is for one year and can be renewed subject to performance and funding.
Qualification
Masters/Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism or Mass Communication/Science Communication or PhD in Life Sciences/Allied fields with work experience in science communication.
Experience
- Demonstrable experience in communications, preferably in a public, charitable, or educational institution.
- Understanding of the science, research and/or policy ecosystem in India, and the larger international context.
- Demonstrable experience in handling of web-based management systems in a professional context; familiarity with relevant information technology, including social media and website content management.
- Ability to work to deadlines independently, and as part of a team.
- Willing to undertake travel to meet stakeholders, participate in workshops/events and to bring stories from the field.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Desirable:
- Ability to develop innovative and creative communication strategies based on the latest trends.
- Past experience in effective engagement with beneficiaries, media, and stakeholders.
- Basic knowledge of software such as Canva/Photoshop
