M S Swaminathan Research Foundation is inviting applications for a Project Associate‑1 (One position).

The candidate is expected to deliver on the required project objectives. The DST-Indo French collaborative CEFIPRA project titled ​‘Mapping Structure Function Relationships of the Sodium Transporter HKT1; 5 in Oryza Species for new determinants of Salinity Tolerance’.

The project will examine sodium transporter variation in cultivated rice and also within the genus Oryza through sequence mining, cloning, bioinformatics modelling and assessment of sodium transporting function in heterologous expression system(s). The selected candidate will also have an opportunity to obtain short term training in functional transporter assays in heterologous using electrophysiology (two-electrode voltage-clamp) in a collaborator’s laboratory in France.

The position is purely on temporary, contractual basis with a maximum duration of three years. The position is co-terminus with the project.

The initial appointment will be for a period of one year, and will be extended based on the performance of the candidate.

The candidate selected for this position can also apply for the regular Ph. D program with University of Madras provided they satisfy eligibility criteria

• Rs. 31000/- + 24% HRA to scholars who are selected through (a) National Eligibility Tests – CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE or (b) A selection process through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions.
• Rs. 25000/- + 24% HRA for others who do not fall under (i) above.

Master’s Degree in Agricultural Sciences/​Plant Molecular Biology/​Life Sciences/​Biotechnology/​Botany with minimum 60% marks.

Desirable:- Candidates with experience in working with field crops physiology (especially rice) and basic molecular biology methods (cDNA cloning, real time PCR) will be preferred.
