Profile

A JRF position for a project entitled Sexual selection in birds: a genomic perspective’ Funded by DBT is open at Department of Biological Sciences, Ashoka University to conduct research activities in the field of comparative genomics and sexual selection in birds. The person will mainly perform comparative genomic analysis and help with both field work and data collection.

The candidate should be knowledgeable in bioinformatics with experience in the handling and analyses of Whole Genome Sequencing, RNAseq, and related genomic datasets including sequence analyses, population genomic and phylogenomic analyses. An experience with wet lab methods towards NGS data collection, WGS (DNA and RNA extraction, NGS library preparations etc) and field experience with birds is a plus but not an essential requirement for the position. The candidate is also expected to have some scripting experience (Unix, Python or R).

Preference will be given to candidates who have cleared National Eligibility Tests- CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE or National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies and Institutions. However other candidates are also encouraged to apply.

Duration

Initial appointment will be for one year, which can be extended up to three years upon satisfactory performance.

Money

Based on government norms.

Qualification

  • Masters or BTech degree in Bioinformatics (preferable) or related fields
  • Master’s degree in life science from a UGC accredited university with a minimum of 60% Marks or CGPA of 6.0 and above at a scale of 10.
