Interrogating a conserved Somatostatin-like peptidergic signaling system in C. elegans: implications for Major Depressive Disorder pathophysiology

Profile

A Junior Research Fellow position in a DST-SERB funded project is available in the laboratory of Dr. Raja Bhattacharya, Associate Professor & Ramalingaswami Fellow, Amity University Kolkata. Major focus of the project is to understand the neuromodulatory roles of Somatostatin-like peptides and to establish a novel link between Somatostatin and Serotonin signaling pathways, implicated in Major Depressive Disorders, utilizing the simple nervous system of the model organism C. elegans. 

Successful candidates will be exposed to C. elegans genetics, neurobiology and cutting edge techniques like generating transgenic animals, optogenetics and confocal microscopy. Selected candidates can also apply for the regular Ph.D. program of Amity University Kolkata, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.

Duration

Total 3 years. Initial appointment for 1 year; extendable, depending on satisfactory yearly performance of the candidate.

Money

As per norms of DST-SERB

Qualification

M.Sc. in any discipline of Life Sciences with minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade from any recognized board/​University. Preference will be given to NET/NET-LS/GATE qualified candidates.

Experience

Prior exposure to molecular biology techniques like PCR, cloning etc. is desirable.
