National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) — Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), is a premier research institute engaged in research in life sciences across scale. Several research facilities and associated infrastructure helps in providing cutting edge technology and support research. Research Development Office (RDO) at National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) provides comprehensive support to campus researchers with securing research funding, management of grants and awards, and facilitating research collaborations. The Grants Manager will be a member of the RDO team at NCBS, and will have the opportunity to collaborate with campus researchers and other stakeholders, help develop funding strategies and contribute to securing funding to advance the institute’s scientific initiatives.

  • Understanding the funding needs of campus researchers, providing strategic advice and helping them in navigating and identifying appropriate funding opportunities from various national, international sources.
  • Responsible for providing comprehensive pre-award support to researchers at NCBS for developing grant bids of varying complexities, proposal development, providing comprehensive budget support, ensuring compliance with the institutional and agency requirements, coordinating submission of grants to national and international sources and grant activations.
  • Responsible for managing institutional registrations on various agency portals including international funding bodies to enable seamless submission of grant applications.
  • Will contribute to data analysis and information management, as per requests from both internal and external stakeholders. This includes compiling data on the grant submissions from campus, success rates of grant applications, analysing trends in funding opportunities, and maintaining records of all grant submissions.
  • Facilitating the implementation of GoI policies on research funding
  • Outreach to the funding agencies supporting campus research, as required
  • Working across with colleagues at the RDO and other departments at NCBS as needed
  • Undertaking any other duties that may be required from time to time

Duration

The appointment will be a fixed-term position initially for one (1) year and renewable annually subject to the outcome of a performance assessment. The position comes with consolidated pay based on qualification and experience, subject to institutional guidelines

Qualification

PhD in life sciences

Experience

  • Proven communication skills
  • Strong time-management and interpersonal skills
  • Initiative, enthusiasm and a flexible approach to work
  • The ability to analyze, summarize and communicate information
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Desirable: Minimum 2 ‑3 years’ experience in research/​grant management.
