Event Details

Online workshop on biostatistics that focuses on the practical aspects.

The Biostatistics: a user’s perspective” series of workshops started in 2018, and till date (i.e. May 2026), there have been 1147 participants.

The primary focus of these workshops is to provide the knowledge required for basic statistical analysis and interpretation of biological data. The amount of mathematics involved is minimal, and the focus is conceptual and application-oriented, i.e. on getting the job done without necessarily understanding each gear and wheel clicking under the hood. Moreover, we demonstrate how to do every single test we discuss on freely available software. This enables the participants to use these tests for their own analysis. We also constantly discuss common mistakes and how to avoid them. For more details, see the course content.

The upcoming edition of this course will run online on two consecutive week-ends (i.e. Saturdays and Sundays) in Aug-Sep 2025 and will involve:

  • 16 hours of interactive live teaching
  • 4 hours of doubt-solving sessions / tutorials (over and above doubt solving during the lectures)
  • Instruction videos on how to do the statistical tests covered in the course on your own
  • Assignments for practicing the tests, including detailed solutions to select questions to enhance understanding
  • Self-evaluation quiz
  • A web-discussion forum for solving queries arising out of the teaching or the assignments / quiz
  • New to this edition: This course now integrates the use of Generative AI as a tool for data analysis.
  • The recordings of all lectures will be made available to the participants (in a view only mode) till 31-July-2026.
