Fate of Fluoroquinolones antibiotics in the Environment — Quantitative method development for detection, environmental samples analysis, and microbial remediation study with special focus in Ciprofloxacin

Profile

Applications are invited from interested and highly motivated candidates for the post of one Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in a time bound research project funded by CSIR, GOI, New Delhi (File No. 24/0369/23/EMR-II) for a temporary period, purely on a contractual basis.

Principal Investigator: Dr. Subhankar Chatterjee, Associate Professor, Department of Ecology and Environmental Sciences, School of Life Sciences, Pondicherry University, R.V. Nagar Kalapet, Puducherry-605014, India

  • The fellow has to develop the analytical method(s) [HPLC/LC-MS-MS/other methods] to detect, monitor, and quantify the prevalence of selected FQ antibiotics (ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, ofloxacin, norfloxacin) in the environmental samples and quantitative analysis of the selected FQs in the water and soil samples collected from FQ contaminated sites.
  • Development of microbial system(s) for the degradation of ciprofloxacin (bioremediation).

Age Limit: Not more than 28 Years. The upper age limit is relaxable up to 5 years for SC/ST/OBC, Women and Physically Challenged candidates (as per CSIR, Govt. of India norms).

Duration

03 years or completion of the project, whichever is earlier. The tenure of the fellow appointed in this scheme is co-terminus with the scheme. The offer will be initially for One Year that can be extended further based on the performance.

Money

Rs. 31,000/- per month (for first two years) and Rs. 35,000/- per month (third year, upon upgradation) House rent allowance (HRA) and Medical allowance (MA): In addition to the stipend, the fellow will be entitled to 

  • HRA, as per Pondicherry University rules, provided he/​she has not been given hostel accommodation (stipend paid/​payable will be treated as pay for the purpose of HRA), 
  • MA, as admissible as per the rules of the Pondicherry University to its employees (this will be limited to the fellow only and not for family members/​dependents).

Qualification

BS 4 years programme/​Integrated BS-MS/M.Sc. or equivalent degree with minimum 55% marks in any branch of Chemistry/​Biotechnology/​Environmental Sciences with NET-LS/GATE qualified in the relevant subject.

Experience

Desirable qualification: Expertise in analytical chemistry, preferably in HPLC, LC-MS/MS, and basic Microbiology techniques. Primary idea/​experience in bioremediation research with excellent writing skills.

Selection will be done on the basis of interview by the duly constituted selection committee. Original certificates and self-attested copies of all certificates need to be presented before the interview for verification.
