Profile

The Bangalore Life Science Cluster (BLiSC) is hiring a Facility In-Charge to fill the operational & organizational needs of the Central Imaging and Flow Cytometry Facility (CIFF). CIFF is equipped with 20 high-end imaging stations and 7 flow cytometers. CIFF mainly provides imaging and cytometry services for the BLiSC community and its affiliates, as well as National Institutes, universities, and biotech companies. The CIFF provides expertise in operating various state-of-the-art light microscopes, cell analysers & sorters in addition to training & education on our systems, advice for staining protocols, applications & data analysis. The successful applicant will be responsible for managing our instruments and keep them in good working order as well as training users in their operation, along with user billing, calendar management, supply ordering, record keeping & service coordination. We handle many of the administrative aspects of running the core facility as well as user outreach.

The Facility in-charge will perform general maintenance, timely instrument start-up/shutdown, QC/QA following documented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), generate new SOPs if necessary, scheduling & calendar management, operation of cytometers & sorters on behalf of users, trouble shooting, keeping track of & ordering of basic supplies, helping to coordinate service visits by engineers. Scope for development of the facility: procurement of new systems/​upgradation of existing systems.

Training new users in the proper use, techniques & rules for using imaging and flow cytometers will be a large component of the job. Excellent customer service is extremely important & an ability to work with & communicate well with people is essential. Attendance & time keeping at work is key to providing a reliable experience for our users. CIFF is engaged with a few public-private partnerships and Facility in-charge is responsible for honouring those MoUs and compliance.

Duration

Current tenure is one year, further extension based on performance.

Money

Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Qualification

A PhD degree in physical or biological science with 5 or more years of related work experience.

  • Ability to lead the facility team in providing service to BLiSC and Non-BLiSC users

Desirable: The selected candidate may be well versed in Microscopy. It is also desirable to have a track record of proactive engagement with networks, both in India and overseas, that are refining existing methodologies and developing new ones. Additional expertise in areas such as microfluidics will be viewed favourably as there is interest on campus for combining different technologies to expand the capabilities of the existing facility.
