Multidisciplinary approach for the design and development of novel ion-channel inhibitors for cancer therapy

Profile

Applications are invited from Indian citizens for a Project Coordinator position in the DBT sponsored project.

The project aims to investigate for the first time the nexus between a membrane channel protein (CLIC1) and a chaperone (Gankyrin) in cancer cell migration and invasion using an integrated approach encompassing tools in biophysics, biochemistry, cell biology, chemical biology, synthetic chemistry, structure-based inhibitor design, small molecule screening and computational methods for the development of peptide or small molecule-based CLIC1 inhibitors for therapy.

In this multidisciplinary and multi-institutional project the selected candidate is expected to take the initiative in constructing protein interaction network, modeling protein complexes and characterizing them using state-of-the-art docking and MD simulations. The selected candidate will also be involved in using leads from synthetic chemistry labs to identify binding sites for peptide derivatives and small molecules.

Initially for 6 months and can be extended for two years, depending on satisfactory performance and the availability of funds.

Money

Rs. 60,000/- per month consolidated.

Qualification

Motivated Computational biologist and bioinformatician with a PhD degree in these areas with extensive knowledge and experience in databases, protein structure activity relationships and pathways such as the Reactome, with an understanding about protein networks and gene relationshipscan apply.

Experience

Ability to code and extract information is mandatory. Knowledge in medicinal chemistry is desirable.
