The annual Young Investigators’ Meeting (YIM) brings together 40 young investigators, 40 postdoctoral fellows from India and overseas with senior scientists, heads of institutes, and representatives from funding agencies, industry and other science agencies, for four and a half days of discussions and interactions focusing on science and careers in a broad range of disciplines of biology, as well as mentorship and networking.

YIM 2027

The YIM series also pairs Postdoctoral Fellows (PDFs) from India and abroad with Young Investigators (YIs) and senior scientists to promote new connections and facilitate a first-hand exchange on building and establishing a research group in India.

The meeting is divided into two parts: The first part is the three-day Young Investigator Meeting (YIM), which will be attended by Young Investigators from across Indian institutions and Postdoctoral Fellows from India and overseas. The second part is the one-and-a-half-day Postdoctoral Satellite Meeting for the Postdoctoral Fellows (PDFs) at YIM 2027.

YIM 2027 will feature an engaging line-up of activities, including mentor talks by leading scientists, special talks across diverse research areas, poster presentations, panel and roundtable discussions, mini-workshops, and dedicated mentorship and networking sessions. Covering a wide spectrum of themes, the programme will explore building and sustaining independent research careers in India, evolving perspectives on science funding, international funding opportunities for Indian life scientists, industry – academia collaborations, and a focused session on effective grant writing.

The Postdoctoral Satellite Meeting at YIM 2027 enables Postdoctoral fellows to learn about research programmes and recruitment practices across Indian institutions and meet senior representatives (Directors/​Deans/​Vice Chancellors) from institutes and universities from across India. 

Although YIM makes an effort to facilitate job searches for Postdoctoral fellows, it is not a job fair. The meeting revolves around doing science in India and mentoring Young Investigators and Postdoctoral Fellows.

About the host institutes

The BRIC-National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (BRIC-NABI) and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Mohali (IISER Mohali) welcome participants to YIM 2027 in Mohali, Punjab.

Located in the Chandigarh-Mohali knowledge and innovation region, the two institutes represent complementary strengths in contemporary science: NABI focuses on translating biotechnology for agriculture, food, and nutrition, while IISER Mohali combines high-quality science education with fundamental and interdisciplinary research.

Established by the Government of India’s Department of Biotechnology in 2010, NABI is dedicated to research in agri-food biotechnology. Its work addresses national and global challenges related to food, agriculture, nutrition and sustainable bioprocessing. The institute brings together expertise in areas such as plant and crop improvement, food and nutritional science, genomics, molecular biology and biotechnology. Through its research, training and collaborations, NABI seeks to connect basic biological knowledge with applications that can benefit farmers, consumers and society. The Centre of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB), also a part of NABI, develops technologies for converting agricultural and biological residues into high-value food, bio-based and industrial products. NABI’s location within Mohali’s knowledge cluster places it close to a wider network of institutions working in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, nanoscience and advanced computing.

IISER Mohali is one of India’s premier institutions for science education and research. Established in 2007, it offers an integrated academic environment in which students and researchers engage with the natural sciences across disciplinary boundaries. The institute’s research spans fields including biological sciences, chemistry, physics, mathematics, earth and environmental sciences, and related interdisciplinary areas. IISER Mohali’s programmes emphasise conceptual understanding, research training and scientific inquiry, making it a vibrant setting for interaction among students, faculty and researchers at different career stages.

Together, NABI and IISER Mohali offer YIM 2027 participants an opportunity to experience two distinctive but connected models of scientific institution-building. Their shared location reflects Mohali’s emergence as an important centre for research, higher education and innovation, while their complementary missions embody the dialogue between fundamental science, education and socially relevant application that YIM seeks to encourage.
