Event Details
I’m the first of my kind or family to try and accomplish this. I don’t think I can make it in academia or industry. All I see around are people from the mainstream. How can I ever stand a chance here? There are too many barriers for me to overcome here.
Do you feel this way? Do you worry that you may not be able to make the most of the opportunities around you?
What if we told you that it is possible for you to overcome all the barriers in your academic, personal, and professional journey?
In this upcoming talk, you can hear the enterprising and inspirational Lorena Soriano – Forbes 30U30 fellow, Founder of EVERY.1, a platform for women of color in STEM, where she aims to change the stats to ensure the technology & products currently being designed are representative of the population – reveal how you can form a community, stay motivated and focused throughout your journey as a researcher both within and outside academia.
Growing up, Lorena struggled to find role models and wondered if success was ever really meant for her. Soon, she learned to overcome all the obstacles in her way as well as to believe in herself and her own ability to achieve. Following her education in STEM, she went on to spearhead unique projects and communities that enable students to develop the skills and knowledge they need to fulfil their aspirations. Based on her own struggles and experiences as a woman of color in STEM, Lorena will talk to you about what some of these internal and external barriers are and how you can overcome them with full confidence in your ability and strengths. She will also talk about how you can use collaboration as an effective technique to succeed.
Attend this free motivational talk to learn how you can feel confident about achieving success as a researcher and how you can be prepared to break down all the barriers along the way.
