Event Details
The Student Conference on Conservation Science (SCCS) – Bengaluru was first organised in 2010 by a group of like-minded individuals passionate about encouraging young minds to explore the science and practice of conservation. As a sister conference to SCCS-Cambridge, SCCS-Bengaluru focuses on attracting student participants, primarily from countries in South and South-east Asia, and Africa. The conference is a multi-day event designed to encourage exchange of research ideas, technical knowledge, and experience related to conservation.
SCCS-Bengaluru 2019 is a four-day conference that includes workshops, plenary talks, student poster presentations and talks, and various activities aimed at networking and introduction to numerous national and international institutions and organisations involved in conservation and conservation research. Of these, the plenary sessions scheduled for each evening are open for free public attendance. The SCCS family comprises the international sister conferences held in Cambridge, Australia, Bangalore, New York and Hungary aimed solely at students — the first of its kind.
The conference is designed for young conservation researchers as well as those engaged in conservation practice. You may participate in the conference either as an attendee or as a presenter.
Registration to attend the conference is open to everyone. However, the option of presenting work is restricted to students and early-stage researchers, i.e., undergraduates and above, but not beyond two years post-PhD. Those working in the social science aspects of conservation are also encouraged to submit abstracts. Presentations of completed as well as work in progress, and from economic and social as well as biological aspects of conservation, are welcome. Although we anticipate that most participants will be Masters or PhD students, we encourage participation from all early-career researchers, whether or not they are registered for an academic degree. Presenters are typically younger than 35 years of age.
This conference is mainly meant for students from South and South-east Asian and African countries. However, self-funded participants from other countries may also apply.
