Workshop aims to introduce participants to the process of writing a piece/​article for popular consumption on mass media. Participants will learn how to craft a well-written article, how to pitch their writing to editors across media types (magazine, newspaper, literary magazine, and blogs), and how to generate pieces that will both inform and engage a diverse audience. 

Workshop on Popular Science Writing (18+), to be held on Saturday, September 18th, 2021 from 6 – 7:30 PM IST. This workshop will be conducted ONLINE using Zoom. Participants can be students (B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D), researchers, writing enthusiasts, nature lovers, ecologists/​biologists/​zoologists/​botanists/​geologists/​environmental scientists, or naturalists, just to name a few! Of course, this is open to all who are interested and willing, though not to children

Fees will be INR 500/- with 50% of the proceedings going towards combating COVID-19 food scarcity with Akshayapatra. To register, please email ranganathan.​priyam@​gmail.​com by Tuesday, September 14, 2021.

Priya Ranganathan is a PhD student at ATREE, Bangalore with a background in ecology and geology. She is also an avid writer, having published over 35 popular science articles, written a children’s picture book, and placed 2nd in the 2021 M. Krishnan Nature Writing Memorial Award. Priya is currently a mentor with the Scholastic-India Writers Academy, where she mentors children in storytelling and writing short stories, and has hosted over 10 writing workshops spanning nature writing, popular science writing, cover letter and professional writing, and blogging.
