DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance and Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) along with IIT Roorkee jointly brings to you — Continue Biotechnology Education Lecture Series — a set of six lectures delivered every alternate month.
The second lecture of the series is being delivered by Dr Sunil Kumar Mor, Asst Professor, Department of Veterinary Population Medicine and Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, University of Minnesota on Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS). NGS is a collective term for several high throughput approaches of massively parallel sequencing methods that can sequence genomic DNA or RNA as short reads with reliable depth of each base call. The NGS approach has heralded a new era in molecular biology due to its potentiality to parallelize the sequencing of millions of fragments of DNA simultaneously. NGS has applications in genome-wide association studies, metagenomics, personalized medicine and disease prediction, high-resolution genome mapping, molecular characterization of genetic resources, molecular breeding, etc. This lecture will emphasize on giving practical knowledge about this growing area of interest.
