Profile

IISER Kolkata require two Junior Research Fellows immediately for research on (1)Plant Diversity and Ecosystem Services, and (2)Faunal Diversity (Butterflies, Birds, and Mammals) to be carried out in Betul, Hoshangabad, Sagar, Sehore, and Raisen Districts of Madhya Pradesh, which are located in the Satpura and Vindhyan Plateau regions and the Central Narmada Valley.

The positions will be based at IISER Kolkata but will require extensive time on field work in Madhya Pradesh, followed by landscape ecological analyses at IISER Kolkata. The project on Monitoring Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services for Ecosystem Enhancement under the Green India Mission will be supervised by Dr Robert John Chandran and funded by the Government of Madhya Pradesh.

Duration

The employment will be for a period 12 months, renewable to 18 months.

Money

JRF will be paid Rs. 31,000/- + HRA at 8% per month.

Qualification

Essential Qualifications: An MSc in Botany/​Zoology/​Environmental Sciences/​Ecology/​Wildlife Sciences/​Life Sciences as pertinent to the respective positions. Significant field research experience in ecology in Madhya Pradesh or Central India is essential for both positions. Ability for field taxonomy of plants / birds / butterflies is also required. 

Desirable Qualifications: Knowledge of Remote Sensing and GIS and landscape ecological analyses, biodiversity analyses, above-ground carbon assessments, and bioresource ecology would add considerably to the strength of the candidate.
