Karyashala — Investigating Biological Phenomena through an Epigenetic Lens

Event Details

The KARYASHALA scheme of Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Government of India is an effort to improve research productivity of promising postgraduate and PhD students from universities and colleges through high-end workshops on specific themes.

This workshop scheduled from 15 – 21 December 2023 at the Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence (Deemed to be University) focuses on Investigating Biological Phenomena through an Epigenetics Lens” and is open to MSc and PhD students.

The workshop is being organized by the Department of Life Sciences at the Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence (Deemed to be University) from 15 to 21 December 2023. The principal aims of the workshop are to delve into the world of epigenetics and explore how it provides invaluable insights into the mechanisms underlying various biological phenomena.

Over the course of this workshop, we will explore key topics in epigenetics, like specific molecular events like DNA methylation and histone modification, gene regulation by enhancers, non-coding RNAs, and statistical approaches used in epigenetic research. Student participants will also be introduced to invetebrate and vertebrate model organisms used to study epigenetics phenomena, alongside tools and technologies employed in the laboratories.

Throughout this workshop, discussions with the faculty instructors and hands-on interactive sessions will provide the students with a comprehensive understanding of epigenetics.

The workshop is limited to 25 students so as to provide an rich, engaging and interactive learning experience where students can gain conceptual understanding and laboratory skills involved in epigenetics research.
