Profile
Foundation for Neglected Disease Research (FNDR) is a not-for-profit biotech R&D organization dedicated to discovering and developing novel therapeutics, diagnostics, and devices for diseases with a high socio-economic impact. Since its inception in 2014, FNDR has generated a portfolio of therapeutics in tuberculosis, nontuberculous mycobacteria, malaria, dengue, leishmania, serious bacterial infections, fungal infections, COVID-19 and RSV, spanning over early-stage discovery to late-stage clinical trials. FNDR’s R&D Centre, which includes state-of-the-art BSL2 and BSL3 laboratories for both in vitro and in vivo research, is located in Bengaluru, India.
Applications are invited for the post of Scientist at Foundation for Neglected Disease Research (FNDR) at Doddaballapur, Bengaluru.
- The key responsibility will be planning, designing and performing experiments in Microbiology (compound library screening, MIC/MBC, kill kinetics, macrophage infection studies, etc.)
- Setting up and performing basic immunological assays (using FACS and ELISA)
- Supporting companies drug discovery and development projects encompassing bacterial and fungal pathogens.
- Data analysis using statistical tools
- Report preparation and presentations
- Supporting drug discovery strategy of the company
- Managing a team of microbiologists
- Managing projects and grant writing
- Open to work in multidisciplinary teams of Scientists
Technical skills required:
- Sound knowledge of Microbiology
- Hands on experience in developing microbiological and immunological assays
- Exposure to areas like AMR and infection drug discovery
- Handling pathogens & working in BSL2 and BLS3 labs. Familiarity with Biosafety practices.
- Drug screening: planning, designing, conducting MIC, MBC, Kill kinetics & related experiments.
- Building pathogen libraries, and handling drug resistant pathogens
- Practical experience in cell cultures/cell line handling techniques, setting up intracellular infection models, ELISA, Western Blotting, FACS and reporter-based assays.
- Exposure to basic molecular biology tools, Cloning, expression, Protein/enzyme assays, PCR, and target identification and validation.
- Some exposure to animal handling and experimentation will be an added advantage.
- Data analysis using statistical tools like GraphPad and knowledge of biostatistics.
- Knowledge of bioinformatics and target biology
- Familiarity with project and grant writing
Basic attributes required:
- Aptitude for team working
- Managing strict project timelines
- Knowledge of setting up assays, biosafety, drug discovery processes and development
- Proficiency in English, excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Computer skills (MS word, Excel, and presentations)

Commensurate to experience and negotiable.
Qualification
Ph.D. in Microbiology or related Biosciences stream with 2 to 3 years’ experience in microbiology. Pharma-industry and Postdoc experience is preferred.
