The Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Studies at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai (TISS) invites applications for participation in the Summer Training Workshop on ‘Developments in Climate Change and Sustainable Development’. The Workshop will be held from 4th June to 17th June 2018 at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and is open only for Indian nationals.
Background
The Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Studies at TISS is planning to conduct four workshops under the project for “Human Capacity Building Programmes under National Mission for Strategic Knowledge on Climate Change”, supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The objective of conducting the workshops is to build capacities to understand the multi-dimensional and complex nature of climate change. Of these four workshops, two are directed towards building capacities of climate change practitioners from the social sciences, in understanding contemporary developments in climate science and the technical aspects of mitigation, adaptation and sustainable development. The first winter workshop for social scientists was successfully conducted in November 2017. The next workshop will be conducted in June 2018, for climate change practitioners from natural science and engineering backgrounds. This workshop is aimed at building capacities of in the social, political and economic dimensions of understanding climate change, its impacts, and the required and proposed interventions. A team of expert faculty will provide comprehensive engagement with the relevant scholarship and field studies to the participants of these workshops.
About the Summer Workshop on Developments in Climate Change and Sustainable Development
The summer workshop is aimed at doctoral students, teachers, senior researchers, and professionals from the natural sciences and engineering working in areas related to climate change mitigation and adaptation. The workshop will be two weeks long and will include lectures, discussions, case study presentations and short projects that participants will be expected to work on. The workshop will cover political, social and economic issues related to climate change, aimed at an audience familiar with the technical aspects of the subject. Topics covered will include the socio-economic dimensions of climate vulnerability, environmental and natural resource economics, energy and climate policy, environmental and resource governance, and climate justice with a focus on equity and rights.
