About
YIM 2018
This Meeting concluded on 9 March 2018.
2018 marks the tenth year of Young Investigator Meetings (YIMs) that have been bringing together young scientists who will lead Indian science in the coming years. Similar to previous editions, this year too, we hope YIM was a groundswell for participants to make friendships, start collaborations, and share ideas for developing their laboratories. The meeting schedule, however was structured on a moderately different template. The participants were YIs from previous years’ YIMs and participation was by invite only.
The four day event, besides putting up an exciting scientific program of research talks by few YIs and posters by all YIs, also witnessed an assortment of interdisciplinary scientific talks by eminent scientists. The most exciting feature of this year’s YIM were the breakout sessions, where scientists deliberated on four broad themes to challenge the stereotypes and prejudices in biology research through dialogue. The four themes discussed during the meeting are:
- Best practices for recruitment and mentoring of YIs in India
- Sharing of resources and collaborations for better science
- PhD and postdoctoral training in India
- Future of Indian Biological Science
Thoughts shared by YIs during the breakout sessions will be compiled into meaningful white papers that can be recommended for adoption by appropriate bodies.
