Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools, like ChatGPT, are increasingly becoming a part of our daily lives, from helping us write better emails to planning our holidays. Not surprisingly, it is making inroads into the field of education too. While such tools can aid learning, they come with a risk of students becoming over-dependent on these tools without understanding the way they function or their limitations.

So, what is generative AI? What does ChatGPT do when you give it a ​‘prompt’? What are the benefits and limitations of generative AI tools in teaching and learning? How can educators use these tools creatively in their classrooms, while ensuring that their students do not become over-dependent on them?

This webinar aims to address these questions and more.

The webinar will be useful for biology educators teaching in colleges and universities, and their students.

The webinar will be in the format of a meeting to make it highly interactive. The speaker will give a talk for 50 min, followed by a QnA session for 30 min.

Ishita Das is an educator, a game designer and an illustrator. She has worked for a non-profit educational organization called Spiders & the Sea, Bengaluru, to build games to engage children and adults with their natural surroundings. She consults for a filmmaking group on a science fiction fantasy series and uses AI tools for the same. She is involved in developing a course for science or biology majors to teach the impact of science and technology using science fiction stories, which will involve using AI in ways that do not hamper creativity and learning in students.
Das has a PhD in behavioural neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a Masters in Biophysics from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru.
