About the webinar

A year after the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 was passed by the Govt. of India, and discussions with the stakeholders thereafter, state governments of Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, and the Delhi University have now approved the implementation of the policy in higher educational institutions. More states can be expected to adopt the policy in the coming months. The challenge now is to find the way to implement it in a practical manner that puts us on track to achieving its goals of revolutionizing the education system in India. 

In this webinar, Shakila Shamsu, former Officer in Special Duty (NEP), Ministry of Education, will delve into various challenges and possible solutions for a successful implementation of NEP. The session will be moderated by Hemalatha Reddy, former Principal, Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi.

Dr. Shakila Shamsu

Dr. Shakila Shamsu, formerly OSD (New Education Policy), Dept. of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), has been the Secretary to the Committee to Draft National Education Policy and has been a part of the entire journey in the formulation of this current education policy. She was the Nodal Officer of the flagship GOI Scheme of National Mission on Teachers and Teaching. 

She held senior positions- Joint Adviser (Education) in Planning Commission and OSD (XII Plan) in MoE. Her career spans over 39 years in teaching /​academics in the University of Mumbai, IGNOU and 14 years in the GOI. Her interest areas are education planning and policymaking, teacher education, ICT and Open & Distance Learning and inclusive education.

A Ph.D in Education, Gold Medalist for Masters, PG Diploma in Distance Education, and a Degree in Law; she has articles in international journals, book contributions and prepared XI, XII Plan and Government Reports. She has been a member of various Committees of the GOI, State Governments, UGC, USIEF National Selection Committees and has addressed several national and international conferences.

Dr. Hemalatha Reddy 

Dr. Hemalatha Reddy served as the Principal of Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi.

She has been involved extensively in curriculum development for UG courses at Delhi University. She has developed pedagogical tools, e‑resources in science education supported by DBT, and lecture plans in climate change and life sciences (TROIPCSU) in association with IISER PUNE. 

Reddy’s expertise in higher education and science and technology has been utilised by a number of national committees in and outside Delhi University, including DBT, UGC and NAAC. She is serving as an advisory member of Delhi Effective Education Pedagogy Cluster (DEEP‑C), a vertical of the Delhi Science & Technology Cluster (DSTC), IIT-Delhi to develop faculty development programs on effective education for various colleges in Delhi and NCR. As an executive member of the Federation of Asian Biotech Associations (FABA), she is currently involved in promoting interaction between academia, scientists and industry in the Biotechnology space in 21 partner countries. She has a PhD in Medical Biochemistry.
