Introduction
The scientific ecosystem in India is ever-expanding, and more opportunities than ever are present today for those who wish to build their careers in science. This new series of webinars by IndiaBioscience will discuss several such career paths as well as provide the requisite knowledge, tools and techniques for science graduates to navigate and craft their career paths.
For our fifth session, join the IndiaBioscience team for an interactive discussion about the importance of professionalism and work ethics for effective career development. We will also be discussing the importance of good role models and mentors in facilitating one’s career journey.
In the second part of this session, we will be joined by Mohammad Atif Alam, Senior Business Development & Project Manager, C‑CAMP and Nirpendra Singh, Consultant, Regional Center for Biotechnology, Faridabad, who will discuss their individual career paths in the field of scientific facility management.
This session is suitable for students who are currently pursuing or have recently completed a BSc, MSc, or a PhD in any life science field, as well as postdoctoral fellows and research scholars.
Mohammad Atif Alam
Senior Business Development & Project Manager, C‑CAMP
Atif manages the Technology Platform Services vertical and liaises with Industry for Technology Licensing for the ‘Discovery to Innovation Accelerator’ program at C‑CAMP. Prior to joining C‑CAMP, he worked at Piramal Enterprises Limited (Life Sciences Research), Mumbai, where he was involved in in vitro and preclinical studies for small molecule (NCE) based drug discovery. He earned his PhD in Biological Sciences & Bioengineering from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India.
Nirpendra Singh
Consultant, Regional Center for Biotechnology, Faridabad
Nirpendra did his PhD from the University of Delhi in 2011 and then started working as an Application Research Scientist at Central instrumentation facility, University of Delhi South Campus, where he was in charge of the Proteomics core facility. In 2013, he joined Regional Center for Biotechnology as Consultant (S&T) and was responsible for the establishment and operation of Advanced Technology Platform Center (ATPC). ATPC comprises six different technology platforms (Mass spectrometry, Protein Production, Electron Microscopy, FACS, Genomics and Optical Imaging) and provides support and solutions to the researchers from academia, startups and industry.
Smita Jain
Smita has a PhD from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in the field of Cancer Biology. After exploring industry for acouple of years, she moved into the field of scientific management. With her keen interest in management, ability to communicate, she played a key role in establishing the business and processes at C‑CAMP, Bangalore. She also has experience working as a research analyst with a digital content organization. She is deeply motivated to take the activities of IndiaBioscience to all possible corners of the country and make a strong knit network of Indian life science researchers and professionals. She is passionate about ‘Careers in Science’, ‘Mentoring’, and developing courses for ‘professional development’. Smita is a recipient of #IRMI Research Management Grant of India Alliance. She is also a nominated member of the review group for the programmes and activities of NSTC, DST, GoI and an invited member of the committee set up by DST, Govt of Rajasthan for the welfare of Women in Science.
Shreya Ghosh
Shreya completed her PhD in the field of neuroscience from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. After spending some time as a freelance science writer, she joined IndiaBioscience to further her passion for science communication, outreach and education. As program manager for science communication at IndiaBioscience, she hopes to participate in giving a voice to and engaging with the scientific community in India.
