Ocular disorders leading to blindness represent a significant global health concern with a substantial impact on the quality of life, global productivity and poses enormous global financial burden. The recent advancement in Biotechnology offers novel approaches to address blindness. Stem cell-based therapy such as epithelial progenitors, multipotent Mesenchymal stem cells and iPSC with their remarkable capacity of self-renewal and differentiation, have provided a ray of hope to patients with corneal and retinal disorders. Gene therapy such as CRISPR/​Cas9 technology is emerging as a promising tool to repair genetic defect underlying corneal dystrophy and retinal disorders. Novel biomaterials, such as alginate, collagen, decellularized Extra-cellular Matrix (dECM), silk, and biocompatible synthetic polymer-based hydrogels are providing a better ocular drug delivery platform and engineering corneal substitutes. The event aims to bridges the gap between scientific discovery and translation of these innovations into tangible solutions for ocular disorders.
