Is there a fee for this workshop?

There is no fee for this workshop.

How do I register for the webinar?

When the registration is open for the webinar, we will make an announcement on all our social media channels. Watch that space in December 2020 for more details on how to register.

Eligibility Criteria

I am a Masters student / early-stage PhD student / Asst. Professor / Assoc. Professor. Can I attend the workshop?

If you are any of the above you are not eligible for the closed component of the workshop. However, we do invite you to attend the open session (webinar) on 12 January 2021 (registration required). 

Do get in touch with us if you are a fall into one of the above-mentioned categories and would like to attend such a workshop. We welcome feedback from the community for shaping future initiatives.

I am an Indian but working outside India. Can I attend the certification workshop?

Unfortunately, you cannot. The workshop is only open late-stage PhDs and Postdocs working in life science in India. However, we do invite you to attend the open session (webinar) on 12 January 2021 (registration required).

I am not from a life-science background. Can I attend the workshop?

Unfortunately, you cannot. The workshop is only open late-stage PhDs and Postdocs working in life science in India. Both the webinar and the assignment are catered towards the requirements of researchers in the field of biology/​life sciences.

I am a researcher working in an industry. Can I attend the certification workshop?

If you are a late-stage PhD or a postdoc working in the life sciences in India you are eligible to apply for the workshop. This holds true whether you are working in an industry or in an academic institution. 

If you hold any other position, you are not eligible for this workshop.

I have completed my PhD but have not yet joined my postdoc. Can I attend the workshop?

If you have completed your PhD within the last 6 months you can apply for this workshop. If you not you can still attend the open session (webinar) on 12 January 2021 (registration required).

Application

Do I have to be nominated by a a YIM Alumni/ EMBO GI or YI?

Yes! This is nomination is essential for your application to be considered.

What should be included in the letter of nomination from a YIM Alumni/ EMBO GI or YI include?

There is no prescribed format for the letter of nomination- your supervisor is free to include anything that they feel is relevant and will help us make a decision regarding your application to this workshop.

From the letter of the nomination we would like to get an idea about: i. Your nominator’s assessment of your skills/​strengths ii. Why your nominator thinks you should be selected for this workshop iii. How they think it will benefit your scientific career

Please make sure that this letter is not too long- it should fit on one page.

How many participants will be selected for the closed component of the workshop.

21 participants will be selected for the closed component of the workshop based on a careful evaluation of the application packages

For YIM alumni and EMBO YIs or GIs

Who can I nominate for this workshop?

You can nominate a maximum of two candidates for this workshop. They must fit the eligibility criteria. You can nominate only one person from your research group. The second person must be from within your scientific network and preferably from a different institution than you.

How do I nominate a candidate?

Once you have selected the candidates to nominate, please provide them with a letter of nomination [1 page in PDF format] to include with their application package.

What should be included in the letter of nomination include

There is no prescribed format for the letter of nomination- you are free to include anything that they feel is relevant and will help us make a decision regarding your application to this workshop.

I would like to participate in this workshop. Is there any scope for this?

We are looking for volunteers for this workshop. These volunteers will act as moderators of the small group practice session, mentor a small group of participants and evaluate poster presentations.
