Welcome + Overview of workshop
Shantala Hari Dass and Smita Jain
Driven by a shared passion to provide skill-building opportunities for and facilitate the development of science careers for Early Career Researchers (ECRs) in the life science community in India, Editage and IndiaBioscience have come together to conceptualise and conduct a series of skill-building training sessions in written communications for PhD students and Postdoctoral Fellows in the life sciences in India.
These online training events will be conducted under the aegis of the “WriteRight series in Research Communication” by Editage and IndiaBioscience. We launched this initiative in July 2022.
A unique feature of this series is that the trainings are tailored specifically to the needs of researchers at early career stages. The workshop will be a multi-part learning opportunity that will provide a very comprehensive training in research communication. To allow for in-depth training, we will invite only a small (pre-selected) cohort of 50 participants for each workshop.
Format of the workshop
This workshop will have five parts, aone — hour training session will occur every Friday 4 – 5 PM IST for 5 weeks starting on 5 August 2022.
The topics that will be covered are:
Week 1: Literature reviews
Week 2: Writing a manuscript
Week 3: Writing a review
Week 4: Manuscript proofreading and editing
Week 5: News stories and lay summaries
It is mandatory for selected participants to attend all the sessions. Certificates will only be issued to participants who attend at least 75% of every individual session.
At the end of the workshop there is an opportunity for participants to submit a sample of their writing for individualised feedback.
