Molecular mechanisms underlying Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related dementias

Profile

The candidate will be expected to work with Drosophila models of AD and other human neurodegenerative diseases including ALS and Frontotemporal dementia (for more details see Casas-Tinto et al HumMolGen 2011; Fernandez-Funez et al HumMolGen 2015; Fernandez-Funez et al ExpNeurol 2015; Minjarez et al JProteomics 2016; Sanchez-Garcia et al Neurobiol Dis 2016; Fernandez-Funez et al PNAS 2016; De Mena et al Fly 2017; Martin-Peña et al Sci Rep 2017; Moore et al J Exp Med 2018). Applicants should have excellent communication, organizational and teamwork skills. Preference will be given to applicants expected to graduate soon or who received their PhD degree within last year.

Money

The postdoctoral fellow would benefit from both the outstanding environment in the lab and the highly collaborative University of Florida community. The candidate will be given an opportunity to present his/​her research work at national/​international scientific meetings, work on translational and basic research projects, and will be encouraged to apply later on to prestigious postdoctoral fellowships or grants. The postdoctoral candidate will be offered highly competitive salary and fringe benefits as per University of Florida policy. Position is available immediately and will be sponsored by an NIH grant awarded to Dr. Rincon-Limas.

Experience

Previous experience with molecular, biochemical and immunofluorescence approaches is essential as well as expertise in cell culture. In addition, solid knowledge of Drosophila genetics would be ideal.
