Profile

Dakshin Foundation, Bangalore invites applications from suitable candidates for the position of Programme Manager, Marine Programme carried out under the Long-Term Ecological Observatories (LTEO) Programme on biodiversity and climate change. While this appointment is for a longer term position, we will offer an initial one-year contract to the successful applicant. The contract will be renewed depending on the performance of the candidate. This position demands that the candidate be a highly self-motivated, independent and enterprising individual who will fulfil the following responsibilities of this position:

1. To assist in the overall development, planning and implementation of sampling methodologies, field surveys, data collection protocols, and in situ experimentation across multiple ecosystems including seagrass meadows and coral reefs and taxa including sea turtles and reef fish.

2. To regularly advise and train junior researchers in field techniques and survey methodologies, participate in survey expeditions, develop data collection and storage protocols, assist in establishing spatial units for long-term monitoring.

3. Liaise between the PI and the co-PIs to and ensure regular completion of project deliverables and targets under the various sub-thematic areas,

4. Coordinate project management including disbursal of funds, timely preparation of financial reports and project reports etc.

Money

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and work experience.

Qualification

A Masters’s degree in ecological sciences, preferably in marine biology.

Experience

  • A minimum of three years of work experience (post masters) demonstrating independent thinking and capacity in execution of science projects relating to marine sciences.
  • Must be a certified diver with extensive field experience and knowledge of the coastal ecosystems including coral reefs and seagrasses and basic understanding and interest in taxonomy and natural history of marine fauna.
  • A demonstrable understanding of issues relating to environmental data collection and analysis.
  • Excellent project management skills including ability to independently facilitate meetings and attention to detail and planning.
