Profile

We invite applications from suitable candidates for the position of Executive Editor for Current Conservation magazine at Dakshin Foundation. While this is a long-term position, we will initially offer a one-year contract to the successful candidate which will be renewed depending on the performance of the candidate. This position demands that the candidate be a highly self-motivated, independent, creative and enterprising individual who will fulfill and exceed the following responsibilities of this position: 

1.Long term planning and visioning for the magazine with guidance from the Chief Editor and Board.

2.Fund raising towards the long term sustainability of the magazine.

3.Overseeing all aspects of production including, sourcing articles, review and editing.

4.Working with the art editor and managing editor towards production of the print issue

5.Overseeing the online activities including website and social media

6.Supervision of the CC team

The initial year is also an opportunity for the successful candidate to carve out a niche for themselves in the sector, playing to their strengths and interests. Current Conservation will provide the candidate with a platform to experiment with ideas and push their boundaries in terms of creativity and problem-solving.

Chief responsibilities: Long term planning and visioning for the magazine, sourcing article for all issues, working closely with the art editor and managing editor to ensure smooth flow of production, fund raising for the magazine

Duration

This is a long-term position, we will initially offer a one-year contract to the successful candidate which will be renewed depending on the performance of the candidate.

Money

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and work, in line with our internal scales.

Qualification

Candidates must possess the following basic qualifications/​skills:

• A Master’s degree in any discipline, with 8 – 10 years of relevant experience in science communication and editing

• Experience with fund raising activities and writing grant proposals.

• Proven record of team and project management 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. 

Experience

Candidates with the following additional qualifications/​skills will be preferred:

• Demonstrable experience working with print or online media publications, ideally in the environmental sector 

• Working knowledge of environmental and conservation related issues
