Profile

Applications are invited from Indian nationals for the post of JRF/​Project Assistant in the research area of ecology and evolution to work in the Integrative Genetics and Evolution Laboratory.

Project Description: Experimental evolution under various nutritional regimes using large outbred populations of Drosophila melanogaster. This work will enable the candidate to learn fly handling, maintenance of outbred fly populations, conducting experiments involving life-history and behavioural traits with potential scope for doing transcriptomics and metabolomics.
Appropriate training and supervision specific to the project will be provided.

No of Position: One JRF or Project Assistant, depending on availability of suitable candidates.

Start date: Immediate (negotiable).

Duration

One year (initially for six months, which is extendable up to six months based on satisfactory performance and mutual interest).

Qualification

  • MSc (or equivalent) in any subject related to life sciences with a minimum of 60% Marks or CGPA of 6.0 and above at a scale of 10.
  • Candidates, who have qualified CSIR-UGC NET or GATE or any other national level exam conducted by national agencies like DBT, DST, ICAR, ICMR, DAE, MHRD, DRDO, IIT, IISER etc with a valid score, will have an advantage.

Experience

Candidates with a working knowledge of handling Drosophila cultures or an ability to generate and handle large scale transcriptomics or metabolomics data will be preferred. An overall understanding in experimental evolution related work is desired but not mandatory.
