Mental Health and Indian Academia: A Survey

Dear Reader,

As you may be aware, we are presently seeing an escalating mental health crisis in academia. An international survey published in Nature Biotechnology showed that graduate students are more than six times as likely to experience depression and anxiety as compared to the general population, while a 2016 study found that over 52% of Indian University students showed symptoms of moderate to severe depression.

We are conducting a survey to understand the status of support systems available in Indian universities and research institutes for students/faculty/staff who are suffering from a mental illness or going through an emotional crisis.

We will be grateful if you can take out 5-10 minutes to fill out this survey and share it with your friends and colleagues. This data (anonymized) will be used as the basis of analysis for a column article on IndiaBioscience. We believe that starting a conversation is the first step to raising awareness about mental health in India.

Thank you, and keep engaging with us.
