With research becoming increasingly global with the passage of time, India has also opened its doors to many international funding opportunities for its researchers.

Despite abundant opportunities to benefit from international funding schemes, the Indian scientific community has enjoyed a below-average rate of success. The problem is two-pronged; firstly, the number of applications being put forth is still lower than expected and secondly, the quality of these applications is often lacking.

To address this lacuna, Wellcome Trust/ DBT India Alliance and IndiaBioscience have come together to launch the International Research, Training and Mobility Grants Awareness Sessions. As a part of this initiative, you will hear from the funding agencies, individuals on the review/evaluation committees of various international grants and finally successful Indian awardees of international grants that Indian scientists are eligible for. By sharing all of these we strive to increase the quantity and quality of applications from the Indian Life Science community.

We are happy to announce that we will be conducting the first workshop of the International Research, Training and Mobility Grants Awareness Sessions at YIM 2020. This event will be an EMBO Grants Awareness Workshop. The workshop will feature talks by a panel of experts followed by a Question & Answer (Q&A) session.

The panel will consist of

• Bettina Trueb (Global Activities, EMBO)
• Vaishnavi Ananthanarayanan (IISc and EMBO Young Investigator)
• Santosh Chauhan (ILS and EMBO Global Investigator)
• LS Shashidhara (Ashoka University/ IISER, Pune and EMBO Associate Member).
