GENERAL

When does YIM 2021 begin?

YIM 2021 starts on 17 March 2021 and ends on 19 March 2021 in virtual mode only. The Postdoctoral Fellows’ Meeting is scheduled for May 2021.

When and how will I know the status of my application?

The application deadline is 7 February 2021. You will hear back on the status of your application and further meeting details by the end of February 2021.

Do I need to send hard copies of the application?

No, the application is completely online. You do not need to send any additional hard copies to the organizers.

I cannot attend the meeting. How should I cancel my participation?

We request you to let us know well in advance if you cannot attend the meeting. This will provide a spot for waitlist participants. Please mail us at yim2021[at]indiabioscience[dot]org.

Can I transfer my spot to my friend or colleague?

It is not possible to transfer your spot. The selection of attendees is done on the basis of individual applications.

Will I get a participation certificate?

We will send e‑participation certificates to those who require certificates.

When will the next YIM take place?

The Young Investigators’ Meeting is held once in a year, usually in the month of February or March. The call for applications for YIM 2022 will open in mid-2021 (however is dependent upon the situation of the pandemic at that point in time).

Who can apply for YIM 2021?

You can apply to attend YIM 2021, if you are a: 1. Young Investigator across the life sciences, who is less than 5 years into their roles as independent investigators in India 2. Postdoctoral fellow in India or across the globe in the life sciences

For YIs, it is important that you have an independent research group in India. INSPIRE, India Alliance Early Career, Ramalingasami Fellows, Ramanujan Fellows and UGC-FRP faculty can all apply as long as they meet the criteria of having an independent research group in India started within the last 5 years.

What is the application deadline?

The deadline YIs to apply for YIM 2021 is Sunday, 7 February 2021, 8PM IST. Similarly, PDFs who wish to participate in YIM 2021 need to complete and submit the google form by Sunday, 7 February 2021, 8PM IST.

I attended a previous YIM. Am I eligible for virtual YIM 2021?

Yes, you are welcome to apply.

Does attending the virtual YIM 2021 make me ineligible for subsequent in-person YIM?

No, you are welcome to apply.

Where is the meeting being held?

YIM 2021 and the Postdoctoral Fellows’ Meeting will be held in virtual mode only.

SESSION DETAILS

Since this session is virtual, what are the requirements to enable uninterrupted participation?

The suggested requirements are detailed below.

Hardware requirements: 2+ GHz dual-core processor (4‑cores recommended); 2+ GB of RAM (4 GB recommended), Windows 8+/Mac OS 10.13+/ Linux/​Chrome OS

Software requirements: Google Chrome/​Mozilla Firefox/​Safari, preferably the latest version. 

Also, ensure that you have a stable internet connection. We strongly advise against joining the session from a mobile phone, unless necessary.

What topics will be covered in YIM 2021?

YIM 2021 will cover a range of topics relevant to YIs and PDFs via mentor talks, invited speaker talks and panel discussions. These include aspects relevant to building a research group, navigating the research ecosystem in India in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic, and engaging in outreach and communication efforts.

How do I register to attend the sessions at YIM 2021?

If you are interested in attending YIM 2021, you need to first submit an application (YIs: use the Apply section & PDFs: complete the google form linked to the Apply section). 

The registration links and details on how to join the sessions will be sent to the selected YIM 2021 participants along with the other meeting details.

Should selected participants attend all days?

All selected participants are required to attend all days of the YIM. Participants who cannot stay for all days are requested to decline attendance.

As a selected YI, how can I actively participate in the various sessions of YIM 2021?

Once you have been notified of your selection to YIM 2021, you will receive additional meeting and registration details. The meeting will be held in virtual mode only. You will have the opportunity to interact with the mentors, speakers and panel discussants during the sessions via the live Q/A box. In addition, the meeting will include breakout room (more details below) for small group discussions and an informal networking session.

Will the sessions be live-streamed or available for viewing at a later date?

The sessions will be held on Zoom and will not be live-streamed. However, some of the sessions will be recorded and will be available to view at a later date.

Will the sessions be recorded?

All the talks (except the panel discussion, informal networking and breakout sessions) will be recorded and will be made available to view at a later date.

What is the breakout session, who can attend and how do I join?

The Breakout Session is an opportunity for young investigators to have an informal discussion with a group of their peers and more established and experienced mentors on topics of relevance to them. These sessions will not be recorded or broadcasted and are intended to be a space for an open and honest discussion. 

The topics for this year’s Breakout Session are 1. How to mentor students during and immediately post the pandemic when lab work is challenging and big delays have been incurred. 2. Staying productive and networking during the current times 3. How one maintains a happy and healthy lab amidst this tide.

What is the informal networking session, who can attend, and how do I join?

The format the YIM meetings is focused on fostering conversations and networking in the science ecosystem in India. While in previous sessions, this has been done via in-person interactions, the virtual YIM 2021 format will include an informal networking session in which young investigators and postdoctoral fellows will get a chance to interact with mentors, speakers and colleagues. 

Details of how to join the Informal Networking Session will be shared with the selected YIM 2021 participants along with the other meeting details.

Is there a poster/ talk session for YIs at YIM 2021?

In YIM 2021, there are no poster or talk sessions for young investigators or postdoctoral fellows.

DISCUSSION FORUM

What is the YIM 2021 discussion forum for?

Networking and discussions are vital parts of the YIMs. The discussion forums will be a virtual space for YIM 2021 participants to engage in discussion on the proceedings and learnings of the day during YIM 2021 and beyond.

How do I join the YIM 2021 discussion forum? Who else will I find here?

Details of how to join the discussion forum will be shared with the selected YIM 2021 participants along with the other meeting details.

All the meeting participants, mentors, and panelists are invited to join and actively participate in the discussion forums.

Are there any guidelines for how to participate in the discussion forum?

The discussion forums will be moderated by YIM 2021 organisers and volunteers. The Code of Conduct applies to participation in the discussions as well. In brief, please be respectful and professional and restrict your communication to topics relevant to YIM 2021. That being said, we hope that you will engage in lively and thought-provoking discussions.

Am I allowed to live tweet/ share social media posts regarding YIM 2021?

You are welcome to share snapshots and updates of the meeting, but kindly adhere to the Code of Conduct when doing so. Briefly, please keep privacy, confidentiality and relevance to the meeting in mind.

How will the content of the sessions of YIM 2021 be used?

YIM 2021 sessions and interactions may be compiled as an article, blog, podcast or a report at the end of the meeting. We will ensure that the content is appropriate for public sharing, and that speakers and participants are correctly quoted.
