National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) - Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), is a premier research institute engaged in research in life sciences across scale. Several of these facilities not only provide support to the researchers within the institute, but also academia and industry nationally and internationally.

Mouse Genome Engineering Facility (MGEF) is looking for Facility Assistant.

• Coordinate and participate in the daily operations of the mouse genome engineering facility transgenic and cryopreservation services.
• Perform pronuclear microinjection, blastocyst injections, embryo transfers and survival surgeries.
• Electroporation of CRISPR gene editing reagents into 1- or 2-cell mouse embryos.
• Cell culture and injection of gene-targeted mouse ES cells to produce mouse germline chimeras for the establishment of novel mouse lines.
• Sperm collection and cryopreservation, Embryo collection and cryopreservation, Fertilization, recovery of mouse sperm and/or embryos.
• Cryorecovery of sperm and In Vitro fertilization.
• Embryo transfer live surgeries.
• IVF rederivation of novel mouse lines imported into MGEF facility.
• Animal husbandry and Colony management, post-surgical animal monitoring and care.
• Accurate recording keeping as per Standard Operative Procedures.
• Data management of client’s project, Communicating project status and results with clients.
• Colony management, post-surgical animal monitoring and care.

Duration

The appointment will be a fixed-term position initially for one (1) year and renewable annually subject to the outcome of a performance assessment. The position comes with consolidated pay based on qualification and experience, subject to institutional guidelines.

Salary will commensurate with experience and qualification.

Qualifications

Masters in any biological sciences any discipline /BE / B.Tech / M.Pharma from a recognized University/Institute with a minimum of 50% of marks in aggregate.

Excellent organization and recordkeeping are essential.

Experience

Desirable: 2 years of experience in handling of laboratory mice/rats, knowledge/experience in sperm and embryo handling is desirable.

Qualifications

Candidates must have obtained their Ph. D. degree in the last two years or submitted their Ph. D. thesis and are awaiting the defense. Minimum eligibility criterion for candidates to be considered is to have at least three publications in journals with impact factor of 2.0 or more. The candidate must be a first author/ joint first author/ corresponding author in at least one of these papers. Exceptions may be made for candidates with a paper in a journal of impact factor of more than 5.5.

Experience

The candidate must have demonstrated experience in in-vitro transcription methods using E. coli RNA polymerase including running of sequencing (denaturing PAGE) gels, enzyme kinetics, protein purification and biochemistry and molecular biology (cloning). No knowledge of NMR is required for this project.
