Building Bharat-Boston Biosciences (B4) Program

Profile

Up to 11 Visiting Scientists will be sponsored to pursue research in fields related to the biosciences at Harvard University and other institutions in the Boston area. The Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute will organize seminars at Harvard for Visiting Scientists to discuss their research with the broader community at Harvard and beyond.

Visiting Scientists are expected to reside in the Cambridge vicinity and to actively participate in the events and intellectual life of the Institute. In addition, Visiting Scientists are expected to contribute to the greater Harvard community by teaching, mentoring, or advising students.

This program is a collaboration between IBAB (Bengaluru, India), IISER (Pune, India) and The Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute (Harvard University, Cambridge, MA), funded by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.

There are three main components of the program:

1. Science & Technology fellowship in Boston:
An 18-month fellowship, for fresh PhD holders to pursue research in laboratories of Harvard University or other universities in Boston, in emerging areas of the biosciences.

2. Young Scientists Development Course in India:
A two-week immersive, hands-on workshop in emerging areas of the biosciences for 25 talented students from across the country. Faculty from Harvard University and the general Boston area, as well as eminent scientists from reputed Indian institutes will be teaching and training these students.

3. In-country seminars
Two 1‑day seminars will be held annually, in different cities in India.
