Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) has been established through an Act of Parliament (ANRF Act 2023) to undertake initiatives including seeding, growing and facilitating research at academic and research institutions.The ANRF Governing Board in its First Meeting Chaired by Hon'ble Prime Minister discussed several areas of strategic interventions that include global positioning of India in key sectors, aligning R&D with national priorities, promoting inclusive growth, and capacity building. ANRF in its endeavour to facilitate equal participation of researchers from all sectors of society, has initiated the scheme Inclusivity Research Grant (IRG). IRG scheme will provide funding support to researchers belonging to the Scheduled Caste /Scheduled Tribe to undertake research in frontier areas of science and engineering. It aims to provide a platform for researchers to further their capacity and move on to mainstream research programs.

IRG subsumes the Empowerment and Equity Opportunities for Excellence in Science (EMEQ) scheme of erstwhile SERB. IRG will provide enhanced support with flexible norms.

Money

• Funding is provided up to Rs. 60 lakh plus overheads for a period of three years.
• The measures for ease of doing research include flexibility to utilize resources under recurring head; flexibility in manpower recruitment; enhanced travel, contingency and overhead charges; and support for expenses related to open access publications and patent filing charges.
• International travel for project-related activities is also permitted.

Qualifications

• The applicant should be an Indian National.
• The applicant should be an active researcher belonging to the Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe category working on a regular basis in an academic institution/national lab or any other recognized R&D institution in the field of Science and Engineering.
• The applicant should hold a PhD degree in Science or Engineering or MD/MS/MDS degree.
• The applicant should have at least four years of service remaining before superannuation as of the date of submission of the proposal.
• Researchers/scientists who have ongoing projects under the IRG / erstwhile EMEQ scheme as of the date of submission of the proposal are not eligible to apply.
• Co-investigators are not allowed in the scheme.
• An investigator will be allowed to avail IRG project for a maximum of three times in their career this includes EMEQ projects of erstwhile SERB

The Program for the Archiving of Science and Technology (PAST) is a flagship program of the Archives at NCBS aimed at digital preservation of, and enabling digital access to, at-risk archival material. It is a 12-month program for archival appraisal, standards-compliant archival description, digitization and digital preservation, and mirroring of archival data at the Archives at NCBS. PAST features year-long training, funding support, expert inputs and guidelines, skill development exercises, and more.

Eight projects participated in PAST Cohort #1 (2025-26), resulting in 26 collections. Project catalogues and digital assets were made accessible to the public in February 2026 and are compiled here.

The Archives at NCBS is pleased to announce the application process for the second cohort of PAST. We invite applications for projects to enable digital access to archival material that are rare, endangered, of archival value, and related to the history of science and technology in contemporary India (approximately between 1850 and 2000). The program focuses on under-represented and marginalised histories in science-technology-engineering-mathematics/medicine (STEM). Each project should typically outline names for three roles:    

• An individual lead applicant (referred to as “Lead Applicant”) who is an Indian citizen.
• A Host Organisation, legally registered in India, to collaborate with for archiving and digitization for collections identified
• An archival source for the material (referred to as “Source”), which could also be the host organisation

Money

Up to Rs. 12,00,000 (Twelve lakhs) inclusive of all taxes. Funding support is provided for the following expenses:

1. Project personnel costs (including lead applicant and/or persons selected by the Lead Applicant). All project personnel will be hired directly by NCBS for the duration of the project. This should be at least 50% of the total amount.
2. Up to INR 6 lakhs will be covered towards expenses for accession, processing, and digitization of identified material.

The TNQ Inspiring Science Awards (TNQ ISA) aim to recognise and reward quality science, inspire scholarship, and encourage researchers to make their lives in basic life science research. Each year we reward creative, rigorous, and impactful life science research.

The inaugural winner of TNQ ISA was announced in January 2017, at The TNQ Distinguished Lectures in the Life Sciences, in Bengaluru. Dr Emilie Marcus, ex-CEO and Editor-in-Chief, Cell Press, said, “Building on the successful tradition of the lectureship in inspiring students to pursue their passion with careers in scientific research, we are creating TNQ Inspiring Science Awards in association with the lectures. The idea for this award was brought forth to us by Professor Anuranjan Anand of JNCASR, and we would like to express our thanks and appreciation to him for helping extend the impact of the lecture series in promoting young Indian scientists.”

• The TNQ ISA 2027 is only for research papers published in the Life Sciences.
• These awards are open to life scientists who are registered for a PhD, or recent PhD graduates, or postdoctoral fellows within 4 years of their postdoctoral programme.
• The research paper being submitted must have been first published online or in print between October 1, 2025 and September 30, 2026.
• The submitting author must be the first author or co-first author of the paper.
• The paper should have already been accepted and published in a peer-reviewed journal either as an accepted manuscript publication or a corrected proof publication.
• Only peer-reviewed, full-length, published research papers are eligible for submission. Other article types such as Editorials, Reviews, Opinions, Perspectives, etc. are not eligible. Preprints are also not eligible.
• The applicant must have been affiliated with a research institution or university, based in India, where the research must have been
  conducted.
• Papers with co-authors (Indian or international) are also eligible for consideration. However, the awards are given only to the submitting author.
• The paper must be uploaded as a PDF with the entry, supported by a proof of publication link. Entries submitted as links to sites that are behind paywalls or firewalls are not acceptable.

The TNQ Inspiring Science Awards jury comprises nearly 40 eminent scientists from across the country, organised in four panels to avoid conflict of interest. Every paper is evaluated by a minimum of three jury members. The top two papers from each panel are finally re-evaluated by the panel chairs, and an internationally renowned scientists who is independent of the jury process. One winner is selected from the re-evaluation process. Information about the jury is kept confidential.

Postdoctoral Fellowships offer researchers holding a PhD the opportunity to acquire new skills through advanced training and international, interdisciplinary, and inter-sectoral mobility. 

The objective of PFs is to support researchers’ careers and foster excellence in research. The Postdoctoral Fellowships action targets researchers holding a PhD who wish to carry out their research activities abroad, acquire new skills and develop their careers. PFs help researchers gain experience in other countries, disciplines and non-academic sectors.

There are 2 types of Postdoctoral Fellowships:

1. European Postdoctoral Fellowships. They are open to researchers moving within Europe or coming to Europe from another part of the world to pursue their research career. These fellowships take place in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country and can last between 1 and 2 years. Researchers of any nationality can apply.
2. Global Postdoctoral Fellowships. They fund the mobility of researchers outside Europe. The fellowship lasts between 2 to 3 years, of which the first 1 to 2 years will be spent in a non-associated Third Country, followed by a mandatory return phase of 1 year to an organisation based in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country. Only nationals or long-term residents of the EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries can apply.

Both types of fellowships may also include short-term secondments anywhere in the world during the fellowship (except during the return phase of a Global Fellowship).

Qualifications

• should have a PhD degree at the time of the deadline for applications. Applicants who have successfully defended their doctoral thesis but who have not yet formally been awarded the doctoral degree will also be considered eligible to apply
• must have a maximum of eight years experience in research, from the date of the award of their PhD degree, years of experience outside research and career breaks will not count towards the above maximum, nor will years of experience in research in third countries, for nationals or long-term residents of EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries who wish to reintegrate to Europe

The International Human Frontier Science Program strives to strengthen open scientific inquiry by initiating international collaborative, interdisciplinary and cutting-edge basic research in the life sciences. The program funds projects in basic research studying fundamental problems on all levels of life sciences. The HFSP supports novel collaborations that may lead to a breakthrough by bringing together scientists with distinct expertise from the life sciences and other disciplines such as mathematics, physics, engineering or psychology to focus on problems at the frontiers of the life sciences. 

The new HFSP Accelerator Grant, based on the HFSP Shared Values,  will contribute to strengthening diversity, equity, and inclusion. It supports the partnering of awarded HFSP Research Grant teams with excellent researchers in selected member countries. All teams who have been awarded a Research Grant – Program or a Research Grant – Early Career 2026 are invited to apply for HFSP Accelerator Grants to support the integration of one additional scientist – the accelerator team member – in the awarded HFSP grant project and team.

The HFSP Accelerator Grant offers mutual benefit for both the awarded research team and the accelerator member. The new team member integrates into a high-quality research team that was successful in one of the most competitive peer review selections in the life sciences. The grant team has the chance to complement their research plan by integrating an additional member with corresponding expertise, skills, and knowledge.

Ramanujan Fellowship is meant for brilliant Indian/Indian Origin scientists and engineers from outside India to take up scientific research positions in India and for those scientists/engineers who want to return to India from abroad. The fellowship is scientist -specific and very selective. The Ramanujan Fellows could work in any of the scientific institutions and universities in the country and they would be eligible for receiving regular research grants through the extramural funding schemes of various S&T agencies of the Government of India.

Duration

The duration of the fellowship will be for five years, and is not extendable.

Money

• The amount of the Fellowship will be Rs. 1,35,000/- per month (consolidated including HRA).
• In addition, each Fellow will receive a research grant of Rs.7.00 lakh per annum (for consumables, travel,research personnel & contingencies etc.) and Rs.60,000/- per annum as overhead charges.

The Rowland Institute at Harvard seeks outstanding early-career experimentalists in all fields of science and engineering. The Rowland Fellowship provides an opportunity to establish an independent program in the rich intellectual environment of Cambridge, Massachusetts. To qualify, applicants should currently be in the process of either completing their PhDs and/or have received their PhD after May 1, 2025. Fellows must have completed their doctoral degree prior to starting their Fellowship term.

Edwin Land founded the Rowland Institute of Science in 1980 to foster high-risk, creative research. In 2002, we became the Rowland Institute at Harvard when we joined the University with the mission of advancing the early careers of experimental scientists and engineers. In 2024 we moved from our original building to main campus to be closer to collaborators and university resources. In our founder’s tradition, we are particularly interested in supporting scholars who have the potential to establish a ground-breaking research program in a field that bridges traditional disciplinary boundaries. Previous Rowland Fellows have gone on to extremely successful careers, mostly in academia, but also in industry and as founders of startup companies.

The benefits of a Rowland Fellowship include:

• Fellows will have full principal investigator rights and will establish their labs in an interdisciplinary and interactive environment, in the rich intellectual environment of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
• Fellows will be provided with dedicated laboratory space, and ancillary spaces as needed (ex. tissue culture); generous start-up funding for capital equipment, depending on the Fellow’s research program; a yearly budget starting at $225,000 for general operations (lab supplies, travel, etc.) and the hiring of personnel (postdoctoral fellows, postbacs, undergraduates); and, a salary that begins at $89,999 per year with full Harvard benefits.
• Fellows may have the opportunity to teach undergraduates during their Fellowship, to enable contact with students (ideally in an active research setting, rather than in a classroom), both to help Fellows recruit talented students to their labs and to provide teaching experience that will help them in any career they choose.
• Staff scientists and engineers are available to work directly with Rowland Fellows to design and fabricate new experimental set-ups. Shared research equipment is available at facilities within the Institute and also throughout Harvard University (e.g. the Center for Nanoscale Systems, and the Bauer Life Science Core Facility).
• Fellows will receive mentoring to develop a productive lab culture, support for scientific writing and budgeting, alongside ongoing support for career development throughout the Fellowship period, including leadership training and access to Harvard’s Core for Mentorship Excellence.

Duration

The Fellowship lasts up to five years, with a flexible start date; incoming 2027 Rowland Fellows will have start dates July – December 2027.

Qualifications

• To qualify for the 2027 cycle, applicants should currently be in the process of either completing their PhDs and/or have received their PhD after May 1, 2025. Fellows must have completed their doctoral degree prior to starting their Fellowship term.
• Your proposed research must be experimentally focused in any field of science or engineering – including physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, neuroscience, etc.
• The program accepts applications from such a broad range of fields that the research conducted by current and past Fellows can be used as a guide, but should not be considered restrictive! We choose Fellows based on the best proposed science at the time of submission. That said, we cannot support human subjects research or clinical research of any type, as our fellowship is designed to enable Fellows from multiple disciplines to share overlapping laboratory spaces.

The Company of Biologists’ journals – Development, Journal of Cell Science and Journal of Experimental Biology – offer Travelling Fellowships of up to £3,000 to graduate students and post-doctoral researchers wishing to make collaborative visits to other laboratories. These are designed to offset the cost of travel/accommodation and other related expenses. There is no restriction on nationality.

Conditions of the Travelling Fellowship

• If your application is successful, you will be required to sign our Travelling Fellowship Agreement
• You may only apply to one journal. Please ensure that the chosen journal is the most relevant to your field of study.
• If for any reason you do not carry out your collaborative visit or it is delayed beyond six months of the award, please email tf@biologists.com. Please also arrange for the Travelling Fellowship funds to be returned, in full.
• Any unspent funds must be returned within one month of the end of the visit.
• You must provide at least two bright, clear photographs and a 250-500 word summary of the results obtained from your visit within 3 months of return from the host lab.
• You must keep all of the receipts related to your visit and send to the Charity Administrator within one month of completion of your visit. These must be scanned and uploaded via the online application portal

• Travelling Fellowships can only be awarded once every two years from any of our journals per applicant
• Expenses include travel, subsistence, accommodation, visa, bench and user fees. Travel insurance costs are not to be included in the expenses. Any funding granted will only apply to expenditure incurred within 3 months of the visit commencing
• Please attach the following documents to your application:
  • Letter of status from your Head of Department. (Note: If your Head of Department is also your Supervisor, two letters should be written, one in each capacity.)
  • Letter of support from your Supervisor
  • Letter of support from your host laboratory (Note: All letters of support must be in English, on headed paper and signed.)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Publication list
• It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet the criteria required for a Travelling Fellowship.

ASCB members can apply for up to $1,000 to promote science outreach projects such as student lab visits, science fairs, or other ideas for engaging the public. These activities are organized by the ASCB Committee for Postdocs and Students (COMPASS).

As an expert in your field, you have the responsibility to communicate scientific concepts and be a resource for curious minds. In return, you will:

1. Develop your ability to communicate complex ideas in a way that everyone can understand
2. By getting out there and promoting science to the general community, you learn to talk to people from all walks of life
3. Network across different disciplines, identities, and career stages, both within and outside the scientific community
