Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) conducts annual summer programmes in which talented students are introduced to research activities in the areas of Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics.The selected students are expected to work on a research project under the supervision of a TIFR researcher.
The programmes are held both at the Mumbai campus of the TIFR as well as at the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA), Pune during mid May to early July each year.

Participants are paid a monthly stipend of Rs 7000/-, Sleeper class return railway fare and are provided with shared hostel accommodation.
First Year M.Sc., Fourth Year Integrated MS and M.Tech. students. Highly motivated Third Year B.Tech. students are also eligible to apply.

3. A write-up of up to 400 words, describing your interest in the most preferred field of study has to be provided in the appropriate box. The write up should not contain special characters. In particular, use of equations in write-ups is strongly discouraged.
4. Names, Affiliation, Designation, Contact address (both e-mail and physical address) and contact phone no. of 2 referees who would be filling referee reports for you. They should be teachers or persons with whom you have interacted academically.

The Centre offers summer fellowships for two months to bright undergraduate and MSc students (renewable for a second year for selected students). This programme has proved to be popular and competitive; each year, about 5000 students from all over India apply for the 120 fellowships awarded. Fifty fellowships are supported by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, fifteen by the Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies, New Delhi, and the rest by the Centre. Students are placed with research groups at the Centre or with scientists elsewhere in India. Selected students get the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research, and several summer projects have led to publications in leading journals. Many of the summer students of past years have gone on to pursue graduate studies and a research career, at the JNCASR or at another leading university.

The three national Science Academies offer several two-month Summer Fellowships to enable students/teachers (studying/teaching in India) to work with scientists associated with the three Academies during 2014. A copy of the application format, instructions to applicants including eligibility criteria, and a list of names of scientists/faculty who have consented to guide students/teachers to work on short-term projects is displayed online.

The application should include: (a) the application form in the prescribed format; (b) a write-up (in about 150 - 250 words) as to what the applicant wants to learn and achieve; (c) the guide with whom the applicant would like to work. Student applicants should include a recommendation letter (in the prescribed format) familiar with their work, in a sealed envelope. The selected candidate may work with the assigned guide for two months any time during the calendar year, preferably during the summer.
