The course is split into three afternoons.

Day 1 & 2 from and Day 3 from 12:30 - 16:30 (IST).

Having navigated a PhD and a postdoc, junior group leaders face a new and exciting challenge: setting up their own laboratory and leading a team. The move from bench to PI's desk is a steep learning curve and one that most of us are rarely prepared for. This course is designed to help. Over two interactive days, participants will be introduced to the key concepts and practicalities of establishing their first laboratory, from allocating resources effectively to managing people and building a team culture. Sessions will combine discussion with hands-on practice.

The course has been curated by Leadership sculptor with Petra Pandur, PhD, and David Lescheid, PhD, as trainers.

In this course, we will learn about the fundamentals of biomedical optics, starting from how the photon interacts with a single atom, to a diatomic species, and then with polyatomic species such as haemoglobin. You will learn the basics of spectroscopy and different imaging modalities such as fluorescence, UV-Vis-NIR, diffuse optics, polarization, Speckle contrast, and multimodal imaging. You will also learn about fundamental and advances in the field of optical biosensors and various plasmonic resonances. IIITDM Kancheepuram will also discuss the principles and details along with demonstration of various microscopic imaging such as brightfield, phase contrast, fluorescence and polarization-based microscopy.

IIITDM Kancheepuram is an Institute of National Importance established by the Ministry of Education, Government of India to pursue design and manufacturing-oriented engineering education and research and to promote the competitive advantage of Indian products in global markets. In 2026, IIT Mandi hosts India's first Garden, bringing frontier methods in electroencephalography (EEG) directly to Indian students, researchers, and clinicians.

Spanning five days (21–25 September 2026) at IIT Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, the conference combines globally broadcast plenary lectures with locally delivered, hands-on training. Participants will gain practical experience with modern EEG analysis, which includes reproducible processing pipelines, machine-learning and decoding approaches, and open-source tools such as EEGLAB, FieldTrip, etc.

The program features:

Keynote lectures and special sessions from 10+ distinguished local speakers, spanning cognitive neuroscience, clinical neurology, computational modeling, and neurotechnology.

Hands-on tutorials and EEG demonstrations on current analysis methods and open-source software.

Panel discussions on building neuroimaging capacity and reproducible, open science in India.

A poster session and student presentations, with awards for the best oral presentation, best poster, and a young scientist award.

The conference is open to students, doctoral scholars, faculty, researchers, and clinicians working with or intending to work with EEG data. Whether you are new to brain-signal analysis or looking to sharpen your methods, the IIT Mandi Garden offers a rare chance to learn frontier techniques in person, connect with a global community, and bring these skills back to your own institution.

In this webinar, Fellowsherpa explores the basic aspects of the fellowship application process to enhance the chances of success of PhD students and early postdocs. In addition to discussing with the participants how to introduce themselves and their research projects, the webinar will also cover formal aspects of the application (eligibility, documentation, formatting) and often-neglected fellowship call instructions that can make the difference between acceptance and rejection.

The webinar will be led by David del Álamo and Thiago Carvalho from Fellowsherpa, who bring extensive experience in international fellowship programmes, graduate education, scientific publishing, and research training.

CODS organised by the India KDD is the premier data centric conference in India. It is to be held from December 13th to 16th this year at DAIICT, Gandhinagar. The conference program features keynote talks by stalwarts in AI/ML, high quality research and industry tracks, topical tutorials and demo tracks. The conference invites researchers in the field of data science, data management, data mining, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, as well as papers describing the design, implementation and results of solutions of such advances to real-world problems. This year we are inviting submissions for a new track on AI for Biology describing original research contributions in the interface of AI/ML and Biology.

The AI for Biology track invites submission of abstracts describing original research contributions in the interface of AI/ML and Biology. These may include the application of AI/ML to address biological questions (“AI for Biology”) or the development of AI methods inspired by biological systems (“Biology for AI”). Submissions can range from theoretical contributions to benchmarking, to design, implementation, and results of novel AI/ML methods applied to biological problems.

Abstracts are limited to 250 words and can correspond to recently published/accepted/submitted papers, or ongoing work. All abstracts will undergo rigorous peer review.

Authors of all accepted abstracts will present posters at the conference. Selected accepted abstracts will also be invited for flash talks.

For more details, visit: https://ikdd.acm.org/cods-2026/call-for-ai-for-biology-track-papers.php
